Christian Values/Christian Distinction (SMSC)

At Weston school we have a commitment and vision to promote a distinctively Christian character within this school. This impacts on behaviour, attitudes to learning and pupils’ enjoyment of school. The impact of the Christian character and values teaching on the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all learners is very strong and the pupils can describe the impact of these teachings on their conduct and wellbeing (evidenced in recent school improvement partner pupil voice).

The strong partnership with the local church benefits the whole school community and impacts families who are traditionally non-church attenders. The attendance for our shared church services with Holy Trinity church in Weston is extremely high with most parents and wider families attending. Weston CE School is a voluntary controlled (VC) Church of England school. This means that our Governing Body include Foundation Governors representing the Parish of Weston and the Diocese of St. Albans.

We have a very close relationship with the church and regularly worship together, led by Rev. Fiona Wheatley and our chair of Governors Dr. David Gunn. We express our Christian ethos through the weekly Christian Values we teach and our school’s mission statement. Whilst celebrating our Christian faith, we respect the religious views, moral values, ethnic backgrounds and way of life of all people during our RE lessons and topic choices.

Find out more about our Christian distinctiveness here:-

From September 2016, Weston school adopted the Imaginor 'Roots and Fruits' Christian values recommended from the Gloucester Diocese.

Each half term the whole school and the local church promote one specific value within assemblies, class teaching and worship:-
